Heritage Week 2023
This year Heritage Week takes place from Saturday 12th August until Sunday 20th August. Heritage week highlights the many aspects of our past of which we are justly proud. National Heritage Week celebrates Ireland’s cultural, built and natural heritage. It brings together volunteers, community groups and heritage enthusiasts to share their experience, knowledge culture and practices.
This year we invite you to explore the traditions and practices, knowledge and skills passed down through the generations.
There are many events in Inishowen and Donegal which you can experience during the week. You can find out what is happening locally and nationally by clicking on this link. www.heritageweek.ie
Fahan Heritage Group invites you to take a guided tour through Saint Mura’s Graveyard and environs in the village of Fahan. You will experience history from earliest times through to the start of the 20th century.
The graveyard is situated on the bend of the road beside the picturesque Saint Mura’s Church of Ireland. There is car parking beside the Church.
The first walk will begin from the car park at 3.00 pm on Wednesday 16th of August. The second walk will take place on Sunday 20th August at 3.00 pm.
Visitors can enhance the experience by using our virtual tour. This can be accessed with the QR codes which you will find at various points on the tour.
Unfortunately, due to the density of graves, the graveyard is not yet wheelchair accessible but many aspects can be enjoyed using the Virtual Tour.
The experience will take c. 1 hour 30 mins.
There is no charge but donations can be made on the day or through our website.
