Miss Caroline Dickson F.R.I.A.I., R.I.B.A.  was the only daughter of Peter and Christine Dickson, Mouse Hall, Fahan. She was a former pupil of the PNEU School in Londonderry, and of Manor House School, Armagh. She was a student at Magee University College before going to the School of Architecture in the Edinburgh College of Art.  She served her apprenticeship with Scott, Tallon and Walker Dublin before working for the Greek firm of A.D. Fotiadi, in Athens and then with Liam McCormick and Partners, Londonderry.  She set up private practice in 1970.

An architect with a rich and diverse portfolio of buildings, she had a particular interest in conservation architecture. A member of Fahan Heritage group she worked on the stabilisation of the old Church of Ireland building and St. Mura’s Cross in Fahan Old Graveyard. She was the former diocesan architect for the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe a roll she held for 40 years and retired from in 2023.

Outside of her profession Caroline had a life long love of dogs particularly her beloved whippets. She was a keen sailor and a former commodore of Lough Swilly Yacht Club.  She enjoyed horse riding, music, theatre and art.

Caroline died on the 16th February 2024 and is buried in the churchyard of her beloved parish church St. Mura’s Church of Ireland Fahan.
